Be Sure the Contractor you are interviewing is licensed and his/her license is in their name.
Express Bath and Kitchens is licensed and bonded on our name with with the state of California. State License Board (CSLB): 975109
RMO vs Licensing:
Some construction companies pay a fee to a legally licensed contractor for use of their license number. This behavior is called RMO (Responsible Managing Officer) While legal, this shortcut allows an unlicensed person to circumvent the stringent contractor licensed trade testing. Express bath and Kitchens have passed all trade tests and holds our own general contractor’s license.
Deposits:
CSLB allows a contractor to receive a maximum of 10% of your contract but not to exceed $1,000. If you are asked to pay more, this is a red flag to walk away immediately.
Liability:
Liability is something every homeowner needs to consider. Although not required by CSLB, liability insurance carried by a contractor safeguards your financial exposure should actions by the contractor cause damage to your home. Express Bath and Kitchen retains liability insurance to keep our clients protected.
Workman’s Compensation Insurance:
Workman’s comp. insurance is CLSB required for all contractors who have or use employee labor. (Labor Code Section 3700). A homeowner can be liable for injury to a person working on their premises if the contractor does not maintain a valid workman’s comp policy for their employees. Express Bath and Kitchens has and maintains workman’s policy.
